As one of the overseas student pursuing your studies in United States you can opt for either the undergraduate, graduate, and post graduate studies.  Normally such students come over as undergraduates or graduates to pursue the studies in the country. It takes four years for the undergraduate to earn the Bachelor’s degree.  The student who wishes to get still higher degree can have the Master’s degree in two years though a few of the degrees can be completed in one year only.

Undergraduate programs in United States follow a set pattern.  The initial year is known as the freshman year. Second year of the four year course is named the Sopho-more year.  Third year in the 4 year course is called Junior Year while the fourth year is called the senior year. The fourth year student in the undergraduate course is also known as the Upperclassmen.

Multiple subjects are available for you to select for pursuing your undergraduate studies.  General subjects are covered in the first two years.  When the student reaches the Junior standard he has to select one of the major fields for study.  A few institutions also allow minor fields for their students. At the same time the student can select several extra courses that are called selective subjects. With a faculty advisor to guide them who normally teaches the major subject and helps the student select the program for study; it becomes easier for the student to pursue his or her desired educational courses.
